Happy 1 Month Birthday!

One month ago today my chunk of a baby was born. I'm a little mushy.

I'd be even mushier if the chunk had slept past 3:30 this morning. Now he's napping and is impossible to wake. What a bugger.

Here are a few random Henry facts to celebrate his Big Day:
  • I have no idea how much he weighs, but I'm guessing it's around ten pounds. Two weeks ago he was 9 pounds, 2 oz. He's since outgrown some clothes.

  • His head control rocks. He'll be in that bumbo seat soon. My little over-achiever.

  • As of yesterday, he's figured out that his activity mat (the one with the crack star and Rocky the Redbird) is fun. It was really like a light bulb went off in his head and he was all, "Oh! I'm supposed to PLAY with these things." He lays there and kicks and bats at his toys. This buys me time to do important things, like blog.

  • He's cranky in the evening.

  • He smiles on occasion. A real smile, not one of those gassy ones.

  • He can sleep up to 6 hours at a time. He already understands that his momma needs to sleep for longer intervals than 2 hours.

  • However, when he sleeps for 9 hours in the car on the way home from Dallas, he will pull an all-nighter and drag me down with him. We went to bed at 6:45 am Monday morning after driving all day Sunday.

Here are a few pictures from the past few days.

This is his "milk drunk" look. He looks exactly like this after every feeding. Henry, not Jeff.

We spent the Fourth of July in Dallas. Here he is in 2 of his 3 Fourth of July outfits.

This last picture is Henry at the Fourth of July party at Jeff's parents' house. Henry was obviously the life of the party. That kid can sleep through anything.

Proof he's my child

I can't sleep without something covering my eyes. Usually I cover my entire face with a pillow when I sleep, but when times are tough and no pillow is available, I'll use my arm. Much like this little guy:

Poor guy. I think he would appreciate it if I closed the blinds over his windows to block out the light.
In other news, he had his 2 week checkup last week. The little chunk gained a pound since birth and a half inch.

Got to run - my enthusiastic eater is awake and hungry.

Henry's obsession

Sorry for the lack of posting lately. It's been crazy around here.

A few weeks before Henry was born, I bought him a playmat/activity gym thing. I bought this particular one because my nephews had one like this, and the toy star attachment was their obsession. We called it the crack star because it would seriously hold their attention and keep them calm when nothing else would. What mom wouldn't want one of those?

Well, Henry's not so interested in the crack star. The toy redbird is his thing. We call it his Rocky the Redbird, after the Memphis Redbirds mascot. It's how we survive tummy time.

Here are a few more pictures for the grandmothers:

Henry and I took Jeff out for lunch for Father's Day. This was also Henry's first car ride, after his ride home from the hospital. He slept the entire time.
Henry's favorite sleeping position: the ninja pose.
Today is Henry's first doctor's appointment. More pictures to follow!
One more thing: I got my first smile from Henry on Monday, when he was exactly two weeks old. He smiled twice that day. No more since.

Henry

Henry's (finally) here! We're all doing well and adjusting to life as a family of three. Four, really, if you count our dog, Sam, which we do.

Sorry, I can't convince Blogger to rotate this picture and I don't have time to worry about it anymore. Naptime's almost over.
I look horrible because I'm on my 48th-ish hour without ANY sleep.

Jeff got a nap in, so he looks a little better than I do. He also didn't have to do all that pushing, which helps in the looks department.

The last one

I quit taking those cute belly pictures when I became VERY pregnant, because let's face it. Beached whales aren't that attractive, and I have no desire to document my beached whale-ness. However, many of my friends and family don't live close enough to see me on a regular basis, and they've been bugging me to take at least one more picture.

This is the last one. No more!

Warning: If puffy pregnant ladies aren't your thing, you may not want to view this picture.

And, a close up.

There you go. The Last One. Yes, those are scrub pants I'm wearing. I'm still working on a very part-time basis, and this is my work attire.

Subtle reminders

Yesterday, driving home from work, I saw something similar to this:

Except this woman was in Memphis, not Botswana. She didn't have a baby on her back, either, but she was carrying a big package on her head. It made me miss Africa a teeny tiny bit.

Pregnancy Perk

FYI, still no baby. I went to the doctor again today, and although I've gained FIVE POUNDS since last week...Baby Z's apparently not going anywhere anytime soon.

FIVE POUNDS. ONE WEEK.

I won't even go into the kind of body image issues those numbers give a girl.

One of the biggest non-baby related perks of being pregnant is a little ditty I like to call, "Scaring high school boys." Here's how it works: I walk past a table of high school/college age boys, and their mouths drop open and they become silent for at least a minute. I'm like a walking abstinence campaign. Love it. It's probably my absolute favorite non-baby related preggo perk. I scout out young guys to scare. If I prevent a few teenage pregnancies, then my job here is done.
